Minneapolis Fire and MMRF Researchers Collaborate to Test Two New CPR DevicesMinneapolis, 10 June 2005 - The Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation (MMRF), The Minneapolis Fire Department, and Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) are teaming up for an important research study. The ResQ Trial, which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, is investigating two new medical devices called the ResQPump and ResQPOD, which hold significant potential to improve survival for victims of cardiac arrest (sudden loss of pulse and breathing). Using these devices we hope to improve blood flow during CPR. Heart disease is currently the major cause of death in North America. The national average survival to hospital discharge after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, despite receiving CPR is less than 5%. HCMC is a public acute care, research, and teaching hospital repeatedly recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Hospitals. The Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation is Minnesota’s third-largest non-profit medical research organization. It ranks in the top 10 percent of all institutions receiving research funding from the National Institutes of Health. ### |
