MMRF is National Leader in ResearchMinneapolis, 4 October 2006 - The Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation (MMRF) at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) is excited to announce that it has moved in to the top 7 percent of institutions receiving funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In 2005, the organization received a total $13,854,208 in direct awards from the NIH. The MMRF competes with thousands of research organizations for this funding. To have such a high standing among those that receive funding reflects our tradition of excellence as a medical research organization. “These new rankings reflect the effort that all members of our organization put into creating top-notch work,” said Mary Bergaas, Vice President of Operations. “Not only are MMRF researchers leaders in their respective fields, but they are conducting research in a variety of fields, allowing us to positively impact many different people from our community.” Research conducted at the MMRF has resulted in major breakthroughs in treating HIV/AIDS, traumatic brain injury, heart disease, cancer, and many other medical conditions. The MMRF is also one of the most fiscally efficient research organizations, with 89 percent of every federal research dollar directly supporting research programs. Founded in 1952, the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation oversees the research on the campus of Hennepin County Medical Center, a nationally recognized research and teaching hospital. The mission of the MMRF is to improve patient care and the health of our community through research and education. It is the third largest non-profit medical research organization in Minnesota. ### |
